There has been a rise in the number of foreign buyers looking at Canada for their next car.  With the lower Canadian dollar and very detailed car history reports, Canada has become a very attractive place to source.  The one catch that every buyer runs in to is the issues around taxes.  Technically dealers can sell without taxes but the issue is that these dealers paid tax (HST, GST, PST, QST, etc.) on the vehicles and would then need to claim it back from CRA (Canadian Revenue Agency).  This sounds easy, but the unfortunate truth is that CRA continues to look for reasons why the taxes cannot be returned.  They frequently ask for long lists of documents and when some documents are missing, use it as an excuse why a refund is not deserved.

With our long history of exporting cars to Europe or shipping cars overseas to practically every continent, Techlantic has a strong team of accountants that invest countless hours of time to ensure every penny of taxes is returned.  In the past, we have helped many overseas buyers source vehicles and offer full packages of sourcing, financing, shipping and taxes.  Techlantic is pleased to partner with any dealer and shipper to ensure that these taxes are a non issue.  Techlantic will pay for the vehicle including taxes.  This way, the selling dealer does not have to worry about asking for them in return and sell to the overseas buyer without taxes.

If you are a buyer outside of Canada or if you are a Canadian dealer that is receiving inquiries out of the country, please do not hesitate to contact us and discuss how we can come up with a solution that specifically meets your requirements.  The best two websites used in Canada for used cars are www.autotrader.ca and www.kijiji.ca.  It is best to limit your search to licensed dealers as working with private individuals has it’s own challenges and risks.  Another important thing to realize is that not all dealers are as cooperative when you mention you are out of country.  If that ever becomes an issue, you can let the dealer know that you have a local company (Techlantic of course) that will help coordinate everything so they aren’t technically selling out of country themselves.

We look forward to doing business together!
